At the Winding Wheel
The English Civil War of 1642 to 1651 was arguably the most important period in our history, and Derbyshire's part in it was of crucial importance, strategically, economically and politically. This talk will examine the roots of the conflict in our county, and its progress, through the eyes of contemporaries and will concentrate in particular on the role of Sir John Gell of Hopton, the Parliamentary garrison commander in Derby.
