Summer Play Season

Chesterfield Theatres is delighted to announce the first Summer Play Season presented by Paul Taylor- Mills and his repertory company.

Paul is considered to be one of the most exciting young directors and producers in England today. He has recently been appointed as the Artistic Director of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new London theatre, The Other Palace. His producing credits include the acclaimed London premieres of In the Heights and Carrie: The Musical at Southwark Playhouse. In the Heights, won three Olivier Awards and ran for two years, whilst Carrie: The Musical won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off West End Production. Other recent productions include End of the Rainbow (UK Tour), Casa Valentina (Southwark Playhouse), Altar Boyz (Greenwich Theatre) and the first London revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Beautiful Game (Union Theatre).

When their dear old friend Colin loses his fiancée, his married friends invite
him round to cheer him up over tea and sandwiches. As the tea starts
to pour, it’s clear that trouble is brewing with a wickedly funny blend of
jealousy, infidelity and barely concealed loathing. With friends like these,
who needs enemies? Alan Ayckbourn’s exquisite comedy Absent Friends
was heralded by the critics as ‘the best fun you can have in the West End
today’ (The Sunday Telegraph).

Celebrated thriller by Francis Durbridge

Robert and Stella learn that their son has been kidnapped - not for ransom,
but to force them to allow one of the kidnappers to remain in their house.
Two other men, supposedly police officers, arrive and reveal that one of the
kidnappers has been murdered. Soon, however, it is clear that these two are
far from what they seem. A highly exciting thriller, first seen at the West End
Savoy Theatre in 1982 with Gerald Harper and Susan Hampshire.

and husband of her own. Her choice: Hobson’s shy apprentice Will Mossop.
