At Pomegranate Theatre
The Saratoga Jazz Quartet is drawn from a group of instrumentalist who enjoy the
experience of expressing their musicality through the medium of jazz.
Performances are based upon the principles of achieving a musically cohesive sound
whilst allowing each soloist a showcase for individual virtuosity.
Admirably suited to small intimate venues the group recreates the musical styles of
the bands that featured in the night clubs and dance venues of the United States
during the greater part of the last century.
Playing music from the Great American Songbook, the band’s repertoire is based
predominently upon the output of composers acknowledged as being the supreme
exponents of the tune-smith’s art.
To aficionados of the genre, the names will be familiar. Music penned by Louis
Armstrong, Harold Arlen, Sidney Bechet, Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, Edward
Ellington, George Gershwin, W.C.Handy, Jerome Kern, Ferdinand Morton, Joe
Oliver, Cole Porter Thomas Waller and others, forms the basis of our repertoire
