An account of the history of transportation of felons, in particular the first and second fleets to Australia. What happened to convicted felons awaiting transportation; their life on the transports, how they were dealt with on arrival and their subsequent fates. Some examples of convicts from Derbyshire are used to illustrate the talk. Transportation of Women to Australia and van Diemens Land. Women were transported fo what today would be regarded as trivial misdemeanours. Two Derbyshire women were on the first fleet to sail. This talk covers the crimes committed by some Derbyshire women, their treatment on the voyage and their fate in the new colonies of Australia and Tasmania.
