At the Winding Wheel
Around the World in 80 Minutes (to Christmas)
The Orchestra will kick off with the Britannia Overture (Mackenzie) and take you east, down under and back again. Some first half favourites include the Farandole from L‑Arlésienne by Bizet, representing France; the Intermezzo from Háry János, a Hungarian folk opera; the Prince Igor Overture by Borodin, from Russia; and Australia’s best-known bush ballad, Waltzing Matilda. The second half starts with Conga Del Fuego by Márquez, introducing the next adventurous number, the Pirates of the Caribbean by Badelt. More action follows, not least the Magnificent Seven theme song, but an Irish Tune from County Derry by Grainger will bring us closer to home shores in time for some classic Christmas numbers.
