Further casting announced for Aladdin panto!

He’s appeared in The Chronicles of Narnia, Heartbeat, The Bill and Crimewatch and toured the UK in number 1 productions! Now Darren Clewlow-Smith brings his wicked ways to the Winding Wheel when he steps into the role of Abanazar!

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Darren graduated from the Birmingham School of Speech & Drama. He featured as Milos, the Gypsy, in Heartbeat and Foster in The Bill, and appeared in Crossroads, Albion Market, The Chronicles of Narnia, Howard’s Way, Grange Hill, Crimewatch, Tooled Up, Property Alert, Pebble Mill and Blue Peter. Darren has also appeared in TV commercials.

His theatrical credits include Narrator in Dracula (Water Rats, London), Jimmy Porter in Look Back in Anger (MAC Arts Centre, Birmingham); Willy Carson in The Sea and Harry in Harry’s Christmas (Stoke); Amiens in As You Like It (Minack Theatre and National Trust tour); Edmund in King Lear and Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol (Leatherhead); Reuben, Issachar & Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (three national tours and London); William of Cloudsley & Alan a Dale in Robin Prince of Sherwood (Piccadilly Theatre, original cast and soundtrack; two national tours and residencies at Liverpool Playhouse Theatre & Liverpool Empire Theatre), Narrator in The Glenn Miller Story (UK tour), Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Shakespeare in the Park, Stoke), Joe Carpenter in The Tart and the Vicar’s Wife (Lincoln), Ferdie Fleece in The Phantom of the P’Opera (Lincoln and Billingham) Ensemble, Summer Show (Opera House, Blackpool), Dandini in Cinderella (Melton Mowbray) and Lucky Eric in Bouncers (Newark).

Darren’s film work includes Malcolm in Burning Midnight and Vanderberg in Wall on the Fly. 

Darren, who lives in Worthing, is pleased to back at the Pavilion with PHA, having previously played Abanazar in Aladdin (Hoddesdon, Lowestoft, Redhill and Redditch), Fleshcreep in Jack & The Beanstalk and Emperor of China in Aladdin (Worthing), and Huntsman & King in Snow White (Newark), and Mr Darling & Captain Hook in Peter Pan (Bridlington), for which Darren was nominated as UK Best Villain at the UK Pantomime Awards.

Darren joins The Chase's Anne Hegerty and Britain's Got Talent's Tony Rudd in this year's magic carpet ride of adventure!

Aladdin runs at the Winding Wheel Theatre from Fri 1 Dec 2023 until Tue 2 Jan 2024.
